Buy chocolate, save a tree… Chocolate lovers can help save the planet by treating themselves to Organic Meltdown…a new range of delicious double certified chocolate bars.

For every bar purchased, a tree in a tropical rainforest will be saved. And thanks to a unique number on every wrapper, it’s even possible to discover which tree has just been saved by zooming down using Google Earth.

Organic Meltdown has teamed up with the World Land Trust to become what’s believed to be the first chocolate bar to save trees, and help combat global warming.

“We’re already committed to saving our first forest of more than 500,000 trees in Ecuador,” said Hayley Whitham, one of the head initiators of the Organic Meltdown initiative. “This is the first chocolate bar range that’s saving trees, and it gives chocolate lovers a perfect reason to treat themselves. “Inevitably, producing chocolate clocks up many food miles, but this is a genuine way of putting something back and doing something positive for the environment.”

How Organic Meltdown saves trees.

Organic Meltdown is helping to save trees in tropical rainforests, and thus combat global warming and climate change, while at the same time preserving valuable wildlife habitats. Organic Meltdown and the World Land Trust identify woodlands that are in danger and estimate the number of trees that live there.

Each bar of chocolate is assigned a number which relates to a tree in the endangered forest. For every bar of Organic Meltdown that’s sold tree is saved. The trees are owned by local conservation groups and managed by the World Land Trust, an international charity established in1989 and based in the UK. Thus, they are saved from destruction. The exact amount per bar to save a tree depends on where the tree is located, the age of the tree and the size of the forest it’s in. Organic Meltdown is currently working to preserve a forest of more than 500,000 trees in the Amazonian rainforest in Ecuador.
